Why I bought SEO Elite (or how to market a product so that it sells)
The latest version of SEO Elite just came out (version 4). It looks like it has some nice new features and is worth checking out (I’ll send you the relevant links in a moment). More interesting to me right now than the new version of SEO Elite is the actual reason why I bought SEO Elite in the first place and what we can learn from that about marketing our own products. You see, SEO Elite uses a marketing style that I don’t particularly like much. One which I have avoided even looking at for the longest time. You know those sales letter pages with the larger than life headlines with the fantastic promise of wealth and success:

Followed by the “evidence” of their success:

Which is then followed by never-ending, mind-numbing text, inter-spliced with big, bold comments:

And did I forget to mention the endless list of “testimonials” testifying to the greatness of this product:

And finally, the “special” bonuses:

I didn’t buy any of it, not the claims, the proof, the testimonials, the bonuses, nothing! I assumed that it was all a scam. And yet, one day I found myself be the proud new owner of SEO Elite and Keyword Elite. What happened? How did they finally get me? So much so, in fact, that I take these sales pages much more seriously now (not all of them, but a good number of them).
I can answer that question in one word - VIDEOS! Brad Callen is a master of using Camtasia (a product which videos your screen as you work on the computer). He simply shows you exactly what the product can do, giving you a clear demonstration of the benefits of owning this piece of software. It’s a soft, although sophisticated, sale. Indeed, it’s almost the exact opposite of his sales page. To see what I mean, take a look at some of his video demonstrations for SEO Elite:
- “Easily Find And Contact Related Websites To Attract Quality Links To Your Website!” — Click Here To Watch A Demo Video!
- “Use SEO Elite To Easily Track Down Websites That Google, Yahoo, And MSN View As Possible Authority Websites… Then Get Them To Link To You - Increasing Your Ranking In Record Time!” [This one I find a little iffy, perhaps even more than a little iffy]:
- Click Here To Watch A Demo Video! (Part 1)
- Click Here To Watch A Demo Video! (Part 2)
- Click Here To Watch A Demo Video! (Part 3)
- “If You Want To Submit Your Website To Hundreds Of Related Websites, You Can Do It Easily With SEO Elite!” — Click Here To Watch A Demo Video!
- “Quickly And Easily See Why Your Competitors Are Ranking Well… Then Copy Their Strategy To Get A Higher Ranking!” — Click Here To Watch A Demo Video!
- “Monitor Your Rankings In All The Major Search Engines, For An Unlimited Number Of Keywords And Websites!” — Click Here To Watch A Demo Video!
There are a couple more that examples that I’m not including and a whole other set of videos at Keyword Elite.
The point is that if you have a good product and you want to sell it (online or offline), it helps to let the customer know exactly what they are getting. Give them a free demonstration, show a video displays, offer a money-back guarantee. In short, let the product sell itself.
So go and take a look at SEO Elite if you are interested in a quality link analysis tool. Better yet, go and take notes on how Brad Callen uses Camtasia to market SEO Elite, that could prove to be just as (if not more) valuable than the program itself (and that’s saying something)!
