5 Great Wordpress Photo Plugins
Popup Image Gallery - A beautiful and enjoyable way to add photos to your site. Click on these photos to see how it works.
Enlarger - Nice little plugin which attractively enlarges photos on your site. Give it a try (just click on one of the photos).
Flashfader Plugin - See it in action (check out the random content box to the left) to see what it can do. You can also use it in your header (wait a few seconds to see what I mean).
Lightbox 2 - Again, try it out to see what it does (just click on the photos). While you are at it, click on these photos too.
MyBlogLog Widget - Shows a photo of everyone who is currently visiting your site.
3 commentsSEM Basics’s list of Wordpress plugins
Andy Beal has come up with a list of Wordpress plugins that he uses on his new wordpress run site. Most of them I know about, but there were a couple of nice surprises. In particular I plan to check out the WordPress Reports and Text Link Ads v2. Here is Andy’s list:
Akismet
Gravatars
intouch
No Self Pings
Social Bookmark Links
Subscribe To Comments
Google Sitemaps
WordPress Reports
Text Link Ads v2
Ultimate Tag Warrior
WordPress Email Notification Plugin v2.3.1
Sidebar Widgets
wp-cache
Here are some other wordpress plugins worth checking out (most of these I use, some I hope to try out soon):
Blogging & Social Bookmarking Plugins
Digg This - Wordpress Plugin - allow your visitors to digg your stories directly on your site (note: this is a difficult plugin to install, unless you read these very helpful instructions).
SimpleTags - easily generate Technorati tags at the bottom of your blog entries (easier to use than Ultimate Tag Warrior, but not as versatile)
Smart Update Pinger - only pings blog services when the post has not previously been published (see site for why this may be important).
Bookmark Me - lets you easily add to your entries links to social bookmarking sites.
FeedBurner Plugin - forwards all your feed traffic to FeedBurner.
Audio/Podcasting Plugins
Audio Player Wordpress Plugin - allows you to insert mp3 audio files into your posts and pages.
PodPress - A dream plugin for Podcasters.
Statistics Plugins
Google Analyticator - adds the necessary JavaScript code to enable Google Analytics logging on any WordPress blog.
WP-Mint - integrates your site with your installation of the Mint stats software (note: I have not used this plug-in nor mint, but it was recommended by Wordpress users)
Performancing Metrics - more of a code than a plug-in, but it works with Wordpress and is “slick and free” (I just installed it so I don’t know how it works yet).
BAStats - Although not everyone seems to like this program, I have enjoyed the stats that it has provided (although I don’t have much to compare it to yet).
Advertising & Ads Plugins
Ad Spaces - a robust component that lets you manage the advertisement real estate on your blog (check out the documentation to see how it works).
AdSense-Deluxe - automatically insert Google AdSense or Yahoo Publisher Network (YPN) ads to your WordPress posts.
Comments Plugins
Not-to-me (scroll down to find the plug-in) - suppresses comment notification emails when the blog admin posts a comment.
No Duplicate Comments - Prevent visitors from leaving duplicate comments/pingbacks/trackbacks to a post.
Miscellaneous Plugins
WP-DB Backup - an easy-to-use plugin to quickly backup your WordPress database.
Optimal Title - attaches your blog name after the page title instead of before the page title.
Rate My Stuff - create attractive, customizable, star-based rating images on your site.
Static front page - use WordPress to run a conventional web site by creating a static home page.
Redirect Old Slugs - If you use permalinks (which you should), then this will help preserve your linking structure if you ever decide to change the “slug” for one of your posts (in plain English, prevents broken links).
Permalink Redirect - replies a 301 permanent redirect, if requested URI is different from entry’s (or archive’s) permalink.
Sitemap Generator Plugin for Wordpress - allows you to create a sitemap for your WordPress powered site (note: this is not a XML sitemap plugin, but rather a highly customizable sitemap generator).
Bread Crumb Trai - creates a bread crumb trail for your blog.
SH-Autolink - transforms predefined words automatically into hyperlinks.
WP-ContactForm - easily create a contact form on your blog.
