How to come up with quality content

Let’s face it, coming up with quality content for your website and/or blog is not easy.  In fact, it can be darn-right hard!  However, today more than ever the success of your site depends on the quality of your content.  As such, I thought I’d share a few ideas of how you can find quality content for your site.

  1. Provide useful links.
The great thing about the internet is that it contains a vast amount of information.  The difficult part about the interne is that it contains a vast amount of information.  Helping to connect your visitors to the information that they need is a tremendous service and will win you a loyal following.  For instance, consider providing links to any or all of the following types of online content:  the latest or most relevant news in your industry, interesting articles, useful online tools, reviews, research, blog posts, interesting blogs or websites, forum discussions, and more.  Even providing as little as five quality links a day can improve the quality of the content of your site.  There are many successful blogs which regularly provide such links.

  2. Use the power of RSS feeds.
By creatively using RSS feeds you can add a variety of interesting and useful content to your site.  More and more sites provide the option of signing up for their RSS feed.  That means that you can easily include their most up-to-date content directly on your site.  As such, you can have a news page, a blog post page, a forum discussion page, etc., each of which provides fresh, new content each and every day.

  3. Interview important figures in your industry
Find the important figures in your field and ask them if you can interview them (you can even conduct the interview over email if need be).  If a new product or service comes out, ask to interview someone from the company.  If there is an important event, try to interview the key players.  In short, keep your eyes open for opportunities to interview people whose ideas your visitors value.

  4. Review new products or services
People love good reviews, particularly ones which help them to decide whether or not a product or service is worth their time and/or money.  Again, keep your eyes open for opportunities to review new products or services.  Try to make your reviews as objective and informative as possible.

  5. Organize information
As we mentioned before, there is a ton of information online.  Often times, though, that information is all over the place and thus difficult for people to find.  Try to find a clever way to organize that information into one central location (for instance, a links page or a set of tutorials).

  6. Offer the same thing for free (or at least for much less)
If there is knowledge and/or information which is only available for a price, offer the same information for free (or at least for a large discount).  People love free information, so long as it is well written and of high quality.

  7. Research something of importance
Research a topic of interest to your visitors and/or customers and publish the results on your site (or offer them for free in exchange for signing up for your newsletter).

  8. Create online tools
Find out what kind of online tools your visitors and/or customers need and offer them on your site.

  9. Ask people to write for your site
If you have a decently popular you should have little trouble finding people willing to provide you with content in exchange for a link back to their site.

  10. Find out what your competition does
Check out your competitors and see what kind of content they provide.  Then try to outdo them.  At the very least offer something similar.

  11. Ask your customers what they want
A great source of ideas for content are your customers and/or visitors.  Ask them what they would like to see on your site and see if you can provide it for them.

This list is, of course, just a small example of the different types of interesting and valuable content that you can provide your visitors and/or customers.  What’s important to remember is that there are numerous ways to provide quality content online.  It’s just a matter of knowing your options and thinking of creative ways to utilize those options.
